My name is Ivson Hurts, and I am honored to serve as the 3rd and 4th grade teacher. I was raised right here in South Mountain, Phoenix, in a home rooted in faith, love, and service values that continue to shape both my life and my approach to teaching.

Education runs deep in my family. My father served as a pastor, my mother worked as a missionary and childcare provider, and my grandparents were professors who believed that teaching was sacred work. From an early age, I learned that guiding children is both a responsibility and a calling.

For over 20 years, I have worked with children and youth in classrooms, churches, and community spaces including Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and mentorship settings. Throughout my journey, I’ve always believed that education is more than academics; it’s about nurturing confidence, character, and purpose.

My professional background also includes work in healthcare, nonprofit outreach, and community service experiences that have strengthened my ability to support children with patience, empathy, and understanding. What matters most to me, however, are the everyday moments: helping a child grasp a new concept, encouraging a student through self-doubt, and partnering with parents to support their child’s growth.

In my classroom, I strive to create a learning environment where students feel safe, challenged, valued, and inspiredacademically, emotionally, and spiritually. Teaching, to me, is sacred work, and I am grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside your child during these important years.

Greetings!
My name is Maulana Muhammad, and I am honored to serve as your child’s K–2nd grade teacher. I studied Sociology at Northern Arizona University and hold multiple certifications in herbalism, blending a love of science, culture, and holistic wellness into my approach to teaching and care.

In 2023, I had the meaningful opportunity to teach alongside Dr. Kelmer Muhammad, an experience that was both eye-opening and deeply affirming. That time strengthened my passion for education and reinforced my belief that learning is most powerful when it nurtures the whole child mind, body, and spirit.

At heart, I am a creative. When I’m not in the classroom, you’ll often find me crafting handmade crystal jewelry or preparing herbal remedies and natural products. These practices reflect my commitment to intentional living, mindfulness, and holistic care values I thoughtfully bring into the learning environment.

Working with young children feels like coming home to joy, imagination, and endless possibility. Their curiosity reminds me daily that learning should feel engaging, playful, and purposeful.

I am also the proud mother of a three year old daughter, who has been my greatest teacher. Motherhood has deepened my understanding of compassion, patience, and the sacred responsibility of guiding young lives. I return to the classroom with renewed clarity, presence, and purpose.

I am truly excited to partner with your family and create a classroom where your child feels safe, loved, inspired, and supported. I look forward to walking this journey with you and your child this school year.
